WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU TEACH?
I teach boxing. Plain and simple. Boxing in itself can be a brutal HIIT workout that will burn calories, muscles, minds, and many other parts of the human body. (Kind of an exaggerated answer, sorry.) But, when done correctly, boxing will give even the newest of "boxers" a decent workout from the fundamentals on up to the advanced boxing techniques that will be as difficult as you make it. I like to say you get what you give to boxing. As stated above, I prefer people with no experience. What I teach is boxing, like I said. I teach it from the ground up both figuratively and literally. I teach you about your boxing feet, your movement, your defensive and offensive hands, and all the good stuff that you see fighters do on tv. I also teach you how to think like a boxer which will help with the workout itself. In combining those two, your workout will show you what you're made of. You can always check us out at the gym and see for yourself or sign up and experience it firsthand.
DO I NEED TO HAVE ANY KNOWLEDGE OF BOXING BEFORE I SIGN UP?
It is ABSOLUTELY OK that you don't know anything about boxing! I actually prefer it! It's better to build off of a blank slate than to correct past and built-in boxing mistakes.
HOW MANY CALORIES CAN I BURN DOING THIS?
1000. If your goal in mind is weight loss, take that number into consideration. That's a lot of calories to be burned off in a single workout.
DO I NEED HAND WRAPS OR GLOVES?
No, you don't. In fact, we could have ALL of your sessions be without them and you're GUARANTEED a workout that is AS EFFECTIVE as those who actually punch stuff. It's just way more fun when you get to hit something. Come in for a FREE SESSION and give it a try. If you find that you like boxing and want to continue, we'll talk gloves and wraps then.
WILL I GET HIT?
No, you won't get hit unless you want to participate in any sparring I will have set up. Sparring will only come up to those who sign up for it and only if I say so. All people learn skills at different paces and this is just as true when it comes to boxing. Meaning if you start out doing this for fitness purposes only, but you're learning fast, you're doing everything right offensively and defensively, and YOU have the interest, we'll talk about it then.
CAN I BRING MY KIDS WITH ME?
Yes. Kids are welcome in the gym. But with the studio running different programs, they must behave safely and keep clear of any workouts that may be going on at different times of the day. Personally, I love kids and would hope that your little ones might take an interest in boxing also.
CAN I TAKE BOXING AS SELF DEFENSE?
First and foremost, I DO NOT CONDONE FIGHTING OUTSIDE OF A SANCTIONED EVENT!!! Boxing is a combat sport. That being the case, you'll learn how to fight. When I coach you, I'll talk to you just like a potential fighter and so you'll learn all the same things a fighter would. You'll develop the skills to protect yourself as a result of this method of training and so self-defense can become a bi-product of what you learn as a fitness participant.
